The Film Festival is a festival which has taken place every November in Thessaloniki since 1960. It is a very important institution for the city of Thessaloniki, as it has spread the city’s artistic reputation in the field of cinema, throughout Greece and Europe. Originally, it started in 1960 as the "Hellenic Film Week" and remained so until 1965. In 1966 it was renamed "The Greek Film Festival" until 1991. In 1992 the festival became international and in 2009 the "The Golden Alexander award" was granted to the film “Agami”.
